The Campbell Lecture represents a key part of our visibility project to showcase the high quality of women scientists both internationally and at Southampton at all stages of their careers. It is named in honour of Ishbel Campbell (1906-1997) who was one of the founding academics of the University of Southampton, a reader in Chemistry as well as a committed teacher and inspiration for women in science.
CANCELLED: Annual Campbell Lecture – 14th March 2018
It is with great regret that we, WiSET, are cancelling our Annual Campbell Lecture on the 14th March 2018. This is in light of the final week of UCU strikes. Although talks between UCU and Universities UK are ongoing, we have had to make a final decision today, 8th March, as to whether to host the lecture, as this is the latest date by which we will be in a position to recuperate some of the costs of the event and provide sufficient notice to our speaker, Prof Penny Endersby. The Campbell lecture will not be rescheduled, as per the strike guidelines. Instead we will be planning a separate event for the WiSET award ceremony later in the year. We would like to thank Prof Penny Endersby, who has shown understanding and patience whilst we go through this process. We would also like to thank you, the guests, for your patience and understanding too.
