Thoughts by Dr Su White 

There has been lots of discussion online and in the papers about the impact of filter bubbles. I have recently been reminded of my own personal filter bubbles and have decided to be philosophical about it and work harder to break out of my bubble. In my little bubble, I have been aware, for many years, of the need to take action to ensure greater equality for women. Collage Unveiling at the Hospital

In honour of Ada Lovelace Day 2017, the Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WiSET) group at the University of Southampton, unveiled a collage made up of hundreds of photos of women from all around the university. Located outside the main lecture theatres in the South Academic Block at Southampton General Hospital, attendees gathered to see the collage for the first time. Continue reading →

For the second year running, WiSET ran the annual WiSET awards to recognise the exceptional contributions of individuals across the university who have worked to raise the profile and participation of women in science, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM). IWD 2017 city event

On the 11th March 2017, West Quay played host to the largest international women’s day (IWD) event in its history. With 500 to 600 people gathered around at any one time, crowding around balconies on all floors, filling up all available space, the event was a resounding success. Katrina Morgan, WiSET co-chair, was inspired by the lead organiser, Ishret Damani from Hampshire constabulary, to get involved and help with the running of the event. Continue reading →
